How to measure your Child

We know it’s not always easy to know where to measure on your child and how to get them the most comfortable Sturdy Fit Clothes. We thought we’d make life easier by giving you a step by step guide.

There are a few things to remember when measuring Generous Fit Clothing. First, don’t pull tight or squeeze the measuring tape  You need  a close  but not tight measurement;  Measure the  Waist, Hips, Neck and Chest by gently wrapping the tape around  the circumference of the  body gently.

At more for kids we make specifically for a Larger Child. One of the  benefits of this approach means  our trousers have a higher back  rise ( longer centre back seam )  This helps with comfort and avoids the trousers and shorts  creeping down in wear . Our Generous Fit Trousers and Shorts also  have more material over the hips, allowing a roomier fit  for plus size children , Our waists always have some form of adaptation and of Shirts have plenty of fabric where its needed without the problems of arms and body lengths that are too long

What do you need

It’s simple measuring your child at home, you only need a few things. To begin with you will need a measuring tape, a pen a notepad or piece paper and of course, your child.

How to measure your child

Lets begin with the waist. At “more for kids” some of our points of measurement are a bit different than for other retailers  because a child with a “bit of a tummy” will tend to wear their trousers under their tummy. So to begin with we need the circumference measurement from  underneath their tummy rather than in the natural waist position..

Next is measuring your child’s chest, place the measuring tape at the widest part under their armpits  measure the circumference . That is your child’s  chest measurement.

To measure the inside leg, get your child to stand-up straight with their legs shoulder width apart. Measure their inside leg from the crotch along the inside of their leg  to the point you would like the trousers to sit, that is your measurement.

To measure your child’s hips, place the  tape measure on the widest part of their hips and measure the circumference.

The simplest measurement is the neck, simply wrap the measuring tape gently around their neck at the point where their shirt sits, making sure to leave two  fingers width in-between to allow for breathing room and growth.

To sum it up

You need to have a measurement for the following,

Shirt – Neck, Chest and Waist

Trousers / Shorts – Inside Leg , Waist and Hip
